In coordination with the MARC Solid Waste Management District’s Regional Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program, the cities of Smithville and Kansas City, Mo., will host a collection event on Saturday, June 30, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the Metro North Mall on Barry Road.
Materials accepted include antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint ONLY. Because of their hazardous qualities, these items cannot be thrown out with the regular trash. No electronic waste or business waste will be accepted.
Residents of Smithville, Kearney, Excelsior Springs, Glenaire, Platte City, Pleasant Valley, unincorporated Clay and Platte counties and other communities in the Regional HHW Collection Program can dispose of household hazardous waste at this special collection event at no charge. Residents can also take household hazardous waste to future mobile events and two permanent collection facilities located in Kansas City and Lee’s Summit. To drop off HHW at the Kansas City facility, located just south of the Chouteau Bridge, call 816-513-8400. The Lee’s Summit facility is open April through November on the first Saturday of the month. The phone number is 816-969-1805. Appointments are required for the Lee’s Summit facility but not for the Kansas City facility or for the mobile events.
