New awards recognize commitments to clean air
Individuals and organizations will be honored through the new AirQ awards

The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Air Quality Program has launched two new awards as part of its AirQ Workplace Partnership. The AirQ Champion and AirQ Challenge awards recognize local employees and companies taking steps to make our air cleaner.

The AirQ Champion award will be given to employees of Workplace Partnership companies whose actions are helping reduce pollution in the Kansas City region. If a co-worker is carpooling, not driving on Ozone Alert days, taking the bus, recycling, turning off lights when not in use, and taking other actions that help reduce emissions, he or she can be nominated for the award at www.marc.org/airQ. Click on the “AirQ Champion” link for full details and criteria.

Employees of Workplace Partnership members can also nominate their organizations for the AirQ Challenge award. Companies that take part in activities that help make Greater Kansas City’s air cleaner, support an alternative commute program for employees, have a recycling program, use high-mileage vehicles in the company fleet, or take other measures to reduce emissions may qualify. To nominate your company, visit www.marc.org/airQ and click on the “AirQ Challenge” link.

Prizes for the AirQ Champion include gift certificates to local businesses such as Blue Bird Bistro and Family Bicycles. AirQ Challenge prizes include the presentation of a keepsake award at a MARC board of directors meeting and ads in Greenability magazine. Nominators of the winners also receive prizes. MARC will accept nominations through July 31, 2009.

In order to be considered for the awards, companies must participate in the AirQ Workplace Partnership, in which more than 160 businesses currently participate. This workplace air quality education and awareness program is free and easy to join. To learn more about the Partnership or to join, visit www.marc.org/airQ.
