Regional Leadership Awards to honor government and civic leaders
Recipients will be recognized at a regional event Friday, June 25
At its 14th Annual Regional Assembly, the Mid-America Regional Council will honor four regional leaders who have advanced a vision of a strong, healthy region; demonstrated a commitment to its environmental, social and economic vitality; and encouraged others to support that vision. The event will be held Friday, June 25, from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center, 2345 McGee, Kansas City, Mo.
The 2010 Regional Leadership Awards honorees are:
- Chief Kent Cantrell, Excelsior Springs fire chief and MARCER chair
- Mid America Assistance Coalition, coordinator of services for low-income and homeless
- Steven C. Klika, chair, Johnson County Transportation Council
- U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, champion for green jobs and environmental sustainability for the region.
The keynote speaker will be Patrick Phillips, CEO of the Urban Land Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on responsible land use and creating and sustaining thriving communities. He has often advised public agencies and nonprofits on public-private partnerships for economic development, and has consulted on projects in the Kansas City area in the past. He is the author or co-author of eight books and numerous articles. He teaches at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design Executive Education Program and at the Carey Business School of Johns Hopkins University.
