Safely dispose of household hazardous waste
Special event in Platte County on Saturday, August 13
In coordination with the MARC Solid Waste Management District's Regional Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program, Platte County, Platte City and Weston will host a collection event on Saturday, August 13 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at Platte Ridge Park, located on Hwy 371, just off of Hwy 29 (exit 20).
Materials accepted include paint, automotive fluids, batteries, household cleaners, and lawn and garden chemicals. Because of their hazardous qualities, these items cannot be thrown out with the regular trash. Electronic waste is not accepted. No business waste will be accepted.
Residents of Platte City, Smithville, Weston, unincorporated Platte County, unincorporated Clay County, which include communities under 500 population and other communities in the Regional HHW Collection Program can safely dispose their household hazardous waste at this special collection event at no charge. Up to 200 vehicles can be served at this event.

Residents can also take household hazardous waste to future mobile events and two permanent collection facilities located in Kansas City and Lee's Summit. To drop off HHW at the Kansas City facility, located just south of the Chouteau Bridge, call 816/513-8400. The Lee's Summit facility is open April through November on the first Saturday of the month. The phone number is 816/969-1805. Appointments are required for the facilities but not for the mobile events.
