It’s Your Home. Make it Safe.

Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste at special event

In coordination with the MARC Solid Waste Management District’s Regional Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program, Platte County, Platte City and Weston will host a collection event on Saturday, August 15, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at Platte Ridge Park, located on Hwy. 371, just off of I-29 (exit 20).

Materials accepted include paint, automotive fluids, batteries, lawn and garden chemicals, and house cleaners. Because of their hazardous qualities, these items can’t be thrown out with the regular trash. Electronic waste is not accepted. No business waste can be accepted.

Residents of Platte City, Weston, unincorporated Platte County and other communities in the Regional HHW Collection Program can safely dispose of their household hazardous waste at this special collection at no charge.

Up to 200 vehicles can be served at this event. A $75 disposal fee will be charged for  residents living in non-participating communities. To find out if you live in a participating community call 816/701-8226 or go to www.marc.org/Environment/SolidWaste/HHW/hhwprogram.htm.

Residents can drop off HHW at future mobile events and at two permanent collection facilities located in Kansas City and Lee’s Summit. To drop off HHW at the Kansas City facility, located just south of the Chouteau Bridge, call 816-784-2080. The Lee’s Summit facility is open April through November on the first Saturday of the month. The phone number is 816-969-1805. Appointments are required for the facilities but not for the mobile events.

The Regional HHW Collection Program offers a safe way to properly dispose of unwanted hazardous wastes and helps to protect public health and safety. For more information on this and other environmental programs visit www.marc.org/environment, or call 816-701-8226.

The MARC Solid Waste Management District administers the Regional HHW Program with funding provided in part by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and participating cities and counties.
