Safely dispose of household hazardous waste at special event in Riverside, October 1

In coordination with the MARC Solid Waste Management District’s Regional Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program, the cities of Parkville and Riverside will host a collection event on Saturday, October 1 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at E.H Young Riverfront Park in Riverside on Argosy Road.

Materials accepted include antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint ONLY. Because of their hazardous qualities, these items cannot be thrown out with the regular trash. Electronic waste and business waste will NOT be accepted.

Residents of Parkville, Riverside, Lake Waukomis, Weatherby Lake, Houston Lake, Northmoor, Platte Woods, unincorporated Platte County and other communities in the Regional HHW Collection Program can dispose of household hazardous waste at this special collection event at no charge. Up to 180 vehicles can be served at this event.

To find out if you live in a participating community call 816/701-8226 or go to www.marc.org/Environment/SolidWaste/HHW/hhwprogram.htm

Residents can also take household hazardous waste to future mobile events and two permanent collection facilities located in Kansas City and Lee’s Summit. To drop off HHW at the Kansas City facility, located just south of the Chouteau Bridge, call 816-513-8400. The Lee’s Summit facility is open April through November on the first Saturday of the month. The phone number is 816-969-1805. Appointments are required for the Lee’s Summit facility but not for the Kansas City facility or for the mobile events.

The Regional HHW Collection Program offers a safe way to properly dispose of unwanted hazardous wastes and helps to protect public health and safety. For more information on this and other environmental programs visit www.marc.org/environment, or call 816-701-8226.

The MARC Solid Waste Management District administers the Regional HHW Program with funding provided in part by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and participating cities and counties.
