City Market will host electronics recycling event on Saturday, October 17
An electronics recycling collection event will take place on Saturday, October 17 from 8 am–12 noon at the City Market on Third and Walnut Streets. The event is open to the public.
The fastest growing type of trash in the United States is electronic waste: computers, TVs and other consumer electronics. Cathode tubes found in most computer monitors and televisions contain significant amounts of lead while other equipment may contain mercury, cadmium, chromium and other heavy metals. When electronic devises are dumped in landfills, these pollutants may pose environmental risks.
Some fees apply. Computer monitors and televisions 19 inches and under cost $10. Larger televisions are $15 and consoles are $25. Also accepted are keyboards, mice, cell phones, printers, stereos and other electronics. No material is sent overseas. Checks and cash are accepted. Please leave all original packaging at home.
The event is sponsored in partnership with the MARC Solid Waste Management District City Market, The Downtown Council, The Downtown Neighborhood Association, The Surplus Exchange. and the city of Kansas City, Mo.
