HHW collection event to be held in Liberty October 24

Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste

In coordination with the MARC Solid Waste Management District’s Regional Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program, a collection event is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 8 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Liberty City Hall parking lot at Kansas and Missouri streets, just off Liberty Square.

Materials accepted include paint and paint-related products, automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, household cleaners, and lawn and garden chemicals. Because of their hazardous qualities, these items cannot be thrown out with the regular trash. The program is for household waste only; no business waste will be accepted.

Residents of unincorporated Clay County, Liberty, Pleasant Valley, Claycomo, Smithville, Kearney, Excelsior Springs, and other HHW program member communities can safely dispose of these products at no charge. Residents of non-participating communities will be charged a disposal fee of $75 per vehicle. The MARC Solid Waste Management District administers the Regional HHW Program with funding provided in part by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and participating cities and counties.

For other hazardous items, residents of participating communities can use one of the region’s two permanent HHW facilities for proper disposal. To make an appointment at the Kansas City facility, call 513-8400. For an appointment at the Lee’s Summit facility, call 969-1805.
