About Transportation Outlook 2030 Update

In October 2005, the Mid-America Regional Council's (MARC) Board approved this update to Transportation Outlook 2030, the Kansas City region's long-range transportation plan. It is a blueprint developed in 2002 that describes how the region will manage, operate and invest in its multimodal transportation system over the next 25 years.

The plan describes the current and evolving surface transportation needs of the metropolitan area and broadly categorizes $16.6 billion in transportation investments ranging from road and transit improvements to projects that enhance bike, pedestrian and freight movement.

Transportation Outlook 2030 Update will continue to change as additional needs are identified. Amendments may be made to the plan as new projects, funding, or programs arise. According to the region’s current status as an air quality attainment area and new federal guidelines under SAFETEA-LU, MARC does not anticipate another full update of the LRTP until 2010.

The preparation of this report was financed in part with funding from United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).
