More than 370 attend 9th annual Telecommunicators Appreciation Celebration
May 4, 2006
The Kansas City Regional 9-1-1 system honored the region’s public safety communications professionals at a celebration held April 14 at the Sheraton Overland Park hotel. MARC hosts the celebration each year as part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators’ Week — a time set aside to honor the unsung heroes who staff the nation’s 9-1-1 centers and other emergency dispatch locations.
More than 370 public safety personnel from 45 public safety answering points (PSAPS) attended the celebration. Meredith Hoenes and Brett Anthony, hosts of KSHB-TV's Kansas City Live, served as emcees for the event. Comedian Mary Feeley and musical performer Bryan White provided entertainment.
Welcoming remarks were made by Annabeth Surbaugh, chairman of the Johnson County, Kan., Board of County Commissioners, and Betty Knight, Platte County Presiding Commissioner. Surbaugh and Knight serve as co-chairs of the Public Safety Communications Board. Many area businesses donated valuable prizes and appreciation gifts.
