MARC invites public safety personnel to annual 9-1-1 Telecommunicators Appreciation Celebration

Mark your calendars for the 10th Annual 9-1-1 Telecommunicators Appreciation Celebration to be held on Friday, April 13, from 6:30 to 11:00 p.m. in the Count Basie Ballroom at the Kansas City Downtown Marriott Hotel, 200 W. 12th Street, Kansas City, Missouri. This annual event, held during National Telecommunicator Week, honors the nearly 600 professional men and women who answer over two million 9-1-1 calls in the Kansas City region.
The evening will include dinner, entertainment, dancing, prizes and more. The registration fee is $10.00 per person and free parking is available at the Marriott and municipal parking garages.
Chris Pisano, KCTV5 news anchor, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Chris has been a member of KCTV5 since March of 2003. He co-anchors KCTV5 News This Morning and KCTV5 News at Noon. Chris hails from Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. Prior to coming to Kansas City, he anchored news broadcasts in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Macon, Georgia. Chris attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism/Political Science. He also attended Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts participating in the graduate broadcasting program.

Entertainment will be provided by:
- Comedian Tom Ryan: Tom Ryan has been a full time standup comedian for over 15 years. He has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman three times, and also on Showtime, A&E, Comedy Central and NBC. Tom has opened concerts for B.B. King, Natalie Cole, Jeff Beck, Earth, Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin, Tim Allen, Steven Wright, Jerry Seinfeld, and Dennis Miller, just to name a few.
- Funk Syndicate: Funk Syndicate is a Kansas City-based dance, variety and show band that has performed both locally and throughout the country. Local performances include the Star 102 New Year’s Eve Celebration, Argosy Casino, Harrah's Casino VooDoo Lounge, and many more. Funk Syndicate is a seven-piece band with a brass horn section and a female lead vocalist. Their music spans the decades of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, ranging from 'Old School' Funk to R&B, Soul, Disco, Swing, Jazz and Classic Rock.
- TMT Jazz Trio: The TMT Jazz Trio has been playing together for nearly two years and is made up of students from William Jewell College and University of Missouri at Kansas City. The group blends a variety of genres -- swing, Latin, funk and rock -- into a uniquely personal style.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to win prizes donated by local companies. Nearly 30 local companies have donated prizes worth more than $1,000, including a digital camera, an MP3 player, movie theater tickets, comedy club tickets, a Dave and Buster’s gift certificate, a one-night stay at the Radisson Hotel, and much more. All telecommunicators attending the event will be entered in the drawing and have a chance to win the prizes. Winners are announced during the event. New prizes continue to arrive at the MARC offices each day.
Thanks to generous contributions by several corporate sponsors, the registration fee is still only $10.00 per person this year. Sponsors include Motorola, Commenco, Missouri Gas Energy, GeoComm, AT&T, J.E. Dunn and Sprint.
