9-1-1 Participates in Safety City

February 11, 2008

Area 9-1-1 dispatchers and AT&T Pioneers participated in Safety City at the 2008 Kansas City Remodeling Show from February 8-10. This year’s 10,000-square-foot Safety City exhibit at the American Royal featured public safety and emergency agencies from around the region providing information to families about how to preserve their safety. Displays and demonstrations covered topics from safe-driving practices to how to prepare for floods, tornadoes or other natural or manmade hazards. Fire trucks and other emergency response vehicles were available for exploration by children.

The 9-1-1 booth was manned throughout the weekend by more than 20 volunteers, with several area high school students suiting up as Red E. Fox. Children were able to try a 9-1-1 call simulator to get comfortable calling 9-1-1 in an emergency, and both children and adults were given valuable information about the regional 9-1-1 system.  More than 30,000 people visited the Remodeling Show.
