GREEN COMMUTE CHALLENGE
Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't see the answer to your question here, e-mail us or call 816/842-RIDE (7433).

What is the Green Commute Challenge?

The Green Commute Challenge is an employer-based contest where employees can earn points and win prizes for using alternative forms of transportation for work, such as carpooling, bus, bicycling, walking and telecommuting.

How do I sign up for the Green Commute Challenge?

  1. First your employer needs to be registered with Carpool Connection.

  2. Then go to Carpool Connection and create an account. Or log in if you have an account already.

  3. Select your employer from the drop-down list when you register. Or do it on your "My Page" if you already have an account.

  4. On your "My Page," click to enroll in the Commute Challenge on the left side of the page.

Your employer will send you an invitation to join the Green Commute Challenge team. Click on the link embedded in the e-mail to join the team.

Can I sign up for the challenge if my employer isn't registered with Carpool Connection?

To be part of a Green Commute Challenge team, your employer needs to be registered with Carpool Connection.

If your company is interested in registering with Carpool Connection, the person who enrolls the organization must be willing to be the employer administrator (i.e., the person who has access to the tracking reports, etc.) Consider asking someone in your human resources office to register the company.

If you company does NOT want to register with Carpool Connection to host a team, and you still want to participate in the challenge, contact us at 816/842-RIDE (7433).

How do I report staying in for lunch?

On the Commute Tracker calendar page, click on the advanced tab. Click on the date for which you’re reporting, and then select “general commute.” A drop-down menu will appear where you can select “Stayed in for lunch.”

Carpool Connection looks like it’s for carpooling only, and I use a different mode of transportation. Does that make a difference?

No. You can still use the Carpool Connection to create your account and record other trips on the Commute Tracker calendar.

I don’t want to carpool. How can I make sure I don’t show up on someone’s match list?

When you log on to your account, click on “Edit My Account.” Then, you can select the button that says “No, I do not want to appear in other users’ searches.”

Will I get more points if I go back to previous months and log trips?

No. The Green Commute Challenge is set to run from July 1–August 29, 2008. Any trips reported before or after that time frame will not count in the challenge.
