As we work together to create more vibrant, connected and green places in our communities, how can we ensure that both reinvestment and new development benefit everyone? Join the Creating Sustainable Places Equity Partners and the Mid-America Regional Council for a community conversation and work session to tackle this important issue.

No cost to attend, but registration is required. Register online or call 816-701-8234.

PART I: Applying an Equity Lens to Sustainable Development, 9 a.m.–noon

Representatives from two very successful development projects, Market Creek in San Diego and Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative in Boston, will discuss how they built successful redevelopment projects that had social equity at their core.
What does it take to redevelop communities in a way that promotes social equity and prosperity for everyone?
The Creating Sustainable Places Equity Partners will present their Equity Lens, nine elements that every development project should address in order to promote social equity and sustainable design.
How can we use this equity lens to ensure that corridor plans incorporate social equity? How can you apply the equity lens to any development projects in your community?
PART II: Building a Regional Equity Network and Agenda, noon–2 p.m.
Nathanial Smith, founder and chief equity officer of Partnership for Southern Equity, a network of organizations promoting a social equity in the Atlanta region, will discuss how the network was formed, its agenda and how it promotes that agenda.
How could we form a similar equity network in the Kansas City region? What would our agenda be, and how would we promote it?

This is a working meeting. Come prepared to roll up your sleeves
and get something done! Register online»
