This
market package provides tailored information in response to a traveler
request. Both real-time interactive request/response systems and information
systems that "push" a tailored stream of information to the
traveler based on a submitted profile are supported. The traveler can
obtain current information regarding traffic conditions, transit services,
ride share/ride match, parking management, and pricing information. A
range of two-way wide-area wireless and wireline communications systems
may be used to support the required data communications between the traveler
and Information Service Provider. A variety of interactive devices may
be used by the traveler to access information prior to a trip or en route
including phone, kiosk, Personal Digital Assistant, personal computer,
and a variety of in-vehicle devices. This market package also allows merchants
to receive traffic information to their personal devices or remote traveler
systems to better inform customers of road travel conditions. Successful
deployment of this market package relies on availability of real-time
transportation data from roadway instrumentation, probe vehicles or other
means. A traveler may also input personal preferences and identification
information via a “traveler card” that can convey information
to the system about the traveler as well as receive updates from the system
so the card can be updated over time. |
