Americans with Disabilities Act
Overview
MARC supports the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) through public involvement in the transportation planning process, and by providing support to local jurisdictions through periodic training and education about responsibilities under the ADA.
MARC ensures nondiscrimination in the access to, or the operation of, its programs, services, and activities, or in its hiring or employment practices based on race, color, sex, national origin, age, military status, or disability.
As part of the 20th anniversary of the ADA, the MARC Board approved a Proclamation of Recommitment to Full Implementation of the ADA (pdf).
Training Events
ADA Accessibility Training Workshops (March 2010)
MARC hosted ADA Accessibility Training Workshops with Lois Thibault from the U.S. Access Board March 15–16, 2010. The workshops focused on regulations, guidelines and best practices for accessible pedestrian design and construction. - Accessible Pedestrian Signals: A Guide to Best Practices
A product of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program Project 3-62, Guidelines for Accessible Pedestrian Signals. This research study used extensive field testing to determine which APS features and locations are most beneficial for blind and visually impaired pedestrians.
