CMAQ Funding Distribution

MARC's CMAQ Committee reviews project proposals and makes recommendations to the Total Transportation Policy Committee and the MARC Board of Directors. The CMAQ committee is charged with distributing funds among project categories using the following breakdown:

Transit Projects: 34% of funds
Traffic Flow Projects: 24% of funds
Bicycle/Pedestrian Projects: 14% of funds
Alternative Fuel Projects: 14% of funds
Outreach/Other Projects: 9% of funds
Diesel Retrofit/Conventional Fuel Projects: 5% of funds

Projects are evaluated using a set of four scoring criteria. Projects may score up to 100 points and only compete against other projects in the same category. The CMAQ Committee generally recommends funding the highest scoring projects in each category; however, in cases where the committee believes a project’s score over- or understates the expected air quality benefit, it may choose to fund a lower-scoring project.

Completed projects

In the summer of 2003, MARC staff analyzed the emissions of 25 completed CMAQ projects.
