In September 2004, the Mid-America Regional Council initiated a Transit Alternatives Analysis to determine ways the community could improve mobility for residents, workers and the transit-dependent along the eastern I-70 corridor in the Kansas City metropolitan area (see graphic below). In addition to enhancing mobility, this project will look for ways to increase the overall transportation capacity in this corridor, to provide additional transportation options to serve travelers now and in the future, to facilitate sustainable economic development patterns throughout the corridor and around potential transit facilities, and to maintain or improve air quality in our region. MARC is working with a team of professional consultants led by HNTB to review a number of alternative transit options, including bus service, enhanced bus service and rail service for commuters who travel to downtown or the Crown Center area to work.
