FY 2013 Funded Safety Projects

Projects submitted for FY 2013 transportation safety funding demonstrate the breadth of local organizations with transportation safety as a priority and the community’s desire to collaborate on this important issue. These projects put into action noninfrastructure strategies that address the region’s high-priority safety areas established in the Kansas City Regional Transportation Safety Blueprint.

The Destination Safe Coalition received 17 eligible applications for funding, totaling $207,997 ($194,697 in Missouri and $13,300 in Kansas). The Coalition met May 30, 2012, and reviewed and scored all applications. Projects were ranked in a two-part project selection process. Each project had the ability to score 200 points — 100 points from the criteria scoring sheet and 100 points from votes received.

At this time MoDOT anticipates around $100,000 in available funding. Currently requests are about twice the anticipated available funding. MoDOT will contact project applicants soon to discuss eligible budget expenses and opportunities to scale projects if partial funding is recommended. The Leadership Team will meet on July 25, 2012, to make final funding recommendations based on the funding availability, project ranking and specific funding request. Full or partial funding may be recommended.

KDOT does not allocate a specific amount of funds for regional Blueprint projects; however, they annually consider projects from the Coalition. KDOT has the discretion on whether to fund a project. Additional requirements not outlined in this process may need to be met by organizations applying for Kansas funds. Projects selected for KDOT funding operate on a fiscal year beginning on October 1.
