Final Recommendation Survey Results
Posted May 1, 2008

Overview

After almost two years of study and public input, the South Metro Connection study team recommended a two-lane roadway from U.S. 69 to Holmes Road with a posted speed of 45 mph and 120 feet of right-of-way. This recommendation was developed following the last public meeting held September 27, 2007, and was based on the constraint of limiting the road to two lanes. To provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the final recommendation, the study team sent a newsletter and survey out to its mailing list of 4,851 people. The survey was also available on-line at the project Web site. Additionally, the study team distributed newsletters and surveys to interested citizens by providing links to the survey and passing out copies of the survey.

The purpose of the survey was to provide a final opportunity for public input on the two-lane recommendation. The results of this survey are not meant as a vote, but rather a way to gauge reaction to the final recommendation.

The newsletters and surveys were mailed to residents the week of March 31, 2008. Comments were accepted through April 18, 2008. A total of 906 comments were received by a number of sources. The breakdown of how the comments were received is below:

  2. If no, what roadway improvements do you support? (Respondents were allowed to select more than category.)

    • Improve existing roads; no connections to North Cass Parkway or U.S. 69. (293)
    • Four-lane parkway (88)
    • Freeway (38)

  3. Please add any additional thoughts or comments regarding the South Metro Connection Study.

The written comments have been placed in categories based on response to questions one and two. If no response to either question was provided, the comments were placed in a separate category. The categories include:

The written responses are classified based on support for the different options previously presented during the study.

Comments not in support of the recommendation or of the study identify the environment, location and no justified need as reasons to abandon the study.

Comments supporting the two-lane recommendation or the four-lane options acknowledge growth, traffic and planning as reasons to move forward with preserving the right-of-way for the plan.

Please see pdf reports below for verbatim comments of all the comments received during the comment period.
