The Give 5 program is kicking off in the greater Kansas City region with the mission of connecting adults over 60 with meaningful volunteer opportunities at nonprofit organizations that need volunteer support. The program will operate in Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray counties in Missouri and is coordinated by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC).

Give 5 is currently recruiting volunteer participants over 60 and nonprofit organizations needing volunteers for program days starting in early April. Participants and organizations must be located in the counties listed above.

Give 5 participants will:

  • Visit over 20 nonprofit organizations.
  • Identify volunteer roles that match their area of interest and skill set.
  • Learn from public service experts on timely topics such as social determinants of health, inclusion, civic engagement and strategies for building vibrant communities.
  • Engage in meaningful ways with the community.

The Give 5 program helps older adults find meaningful ways to stay connected to their communities and can prevent the health risks that social isolation can cause. Give 5 also supports older adults in identifying and trying out opportunities that could lead to a long-term volunteer role.

Due to reductions in funding and rising costs, nonprofits need skilled volunteers now more than ever. Give 5 can help those organizations tap into the sizeable community of older adults with time, resources and skills to help further their mission.

“The nonprofit sector needs skilled volunteers, and older adults benefit from meaningful engagement in the community. A 'matchmaking' approach like this is a win-win for everyone and results in incredible impact for all," said Melody Elston, interim director of MARC's Aging and Adult Services department.
