The Mid-America Regional Council, commonly known as MARC, serves as the association of city and county governments and the metropolitan planning organization for the bistate Kansas City region.

MARC seeks to build a stronger regional community through cooperation, leadership and planning, and addresses issues that extend beyond the jurisdiction of a single city, county or state, including transportation, child care, aging, emergency services, and the environment.

Limits on Political Activity
As an affiliate of local government agencies that acts on behalf of cities and counties and as a recipient of federal funding, MARC is subject to the provisions of the federal Hatch Act. The act restricts the political activity of individuals who work in connection with programs financed in whole or in part by federal loans and grants. All MARC employees must observe certain guidelines and restrictions on political activity. For example, MARC employees may not run for public office in partisan elections, and people who currently serve as elected officials may not be eligible for employment at MARC.
