Community Health Workers now listed in occupation handbook

In September, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics released their 2023 Occupational Outlook Handbook and, for the first time, CHWs are listed as their own occupation in the handbook. 

CHWs were previously grouped with Health Education Specialists in the handbook. This marks a step forward in the acceptance of this important public health profession. 

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a career resource that provides information on hundreds of occupations representing most of the jobs in the United States. It includes information about the nature of each occupation, working conditions, training and education, potential earnings and job outlook.
