National Family Caregivers Month (NFCM) offers an opportunity to raise awareness of caregiving issues, educate communities and increase support for caregivers. The national observance is spearheaded by Caregiver Action Network (CAN), a nonprofit that provides free education, peer support and resources to family caregivers. CAN announced the 2022 theme, #CaregiverAnd, which encourages family caregivers to celebrate the passions and interests that enrich their lives. This is a time to recognize and honor family caregivers across the country.

To support caregivers in our region in November, KU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center partnered with MARC to offer a series of training sessions for caregivers. This training, called the Dementia Training Room, provided a free, come-when-you-can educational event for caregivers of people with dementia on Monday, Nov. 7. Topics include communication strategies, the impact of anxiety and depression, how Alzheimer's moves in the brain, late-stage care, and more.
