The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, and Grain Valley, Missouri, both received awards for taking steps to become more age-friendly for their residents.

The Unified Government received a Bronze Level award for bringing aging issues to the awareness of both city officials and residents, adopting a Communities for All Ages resolution, adding a Communities for All Ages page to their website and holding public listening sessions about aging issues. Grain Valley achieved Community for All Ages' top Gold Level award, for incorporating age-friendly criteria into their comprehensive plan.

The cities received their awards at the First Suburbs Coalition meeting at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.

The region now has more than 20 Gold Level Communities for All Ages. Recently, a video was produced to celebrate this milestone and to discuss best practices cities can adopt that make their city more responsive to their residents.
