The Mid‑America Regional Council has launched a new data portal, making it easier for local governments, researchers, partners and residents to explore and use regional data in one centralized place. The portal brings together datasets, interactive maps and place‑based stories that help tell the story of the Kansas City region and support informed decision‑making. By organizing regional data by topic and format, the portal gives users multiple ways to discover information and apply it to planning, policy development, storytelling and research.

Explore data your way

MARC’s data portal allows users to:

  • Navigate regional data and maps by category or subject.
  • Download datasets for use in their own projects.
  • Explore stories and insights grounded in local data.

Users can now explore data in a more dynamic and visual way, whether they are looking for high‑level regional context or digging into specific topics.

A foundation for data storytelling and collaboration

In addition to datasets and maps, the data portal supports data storytelling — connecting numbers and geography to real‑world regional experiences. Stories featured on the portal use data to provide context, highlight trends and support conversations about the region’s future.

The portal is designed to serve a wide range of users, including local government planners and GIS staff, researchers and data analysts, community organizations and members of the public interested in regional trends and insights.

MARC staff will continue to expand and refine the portal over time, adding new content and improving how data is organized and presented. Early feedback will help shape the portal’s structure, so start exploring and tell us what you think!
