The Blue River flows through the Kansas City region.

Participants will hear from national and regional experts, gain insight into the tangible benefits of riparian restoration, and learn about best practices. The luncheon workshop will also spotlight a regional restoration initiative.

Anyone interested in the topic of riparian restoration is welcome, especially local government decision-makers — including those in parks, public works, planning and city management — as well as environmental nonprofit professionals.

Here are the event details:

  • When: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27
  • Where: Merriam Community Center, 6040 Slater St. in Merriam, Kansas

Speakers

The workshop will feature:

  • Tom Jacobs, MARC’s environment director, will kick off the workshop with an overview.
  • Steve Apfelbaum, founder of Applied Ecological Services, Inc. and the Applied Ecological Institute, will provide a detailed review of the scientific and policy basis for expansive riparian restoration and management.
