I-29/I-35 corridor project awarded $9 million BUILD grant

Congressman Sam Graves, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced earlier this month that the Interstate 29 and Interstate 35 Corridor Project has received a $9 million federal Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant.  

The $9,055,200 award will support engineering, public outreach, environmental analysis and final design work for the planned U.S. Route 169 connection to I‑29 and I‑35. The project includes preliminary engineering and National Environmental Policy Act clearance for two interchanges: one at I‑29 and U.S. 169, and another at I‑29 and North Oak Trafficway.

MARC, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation, helped prepare the grant application, by providing technical support and regional planning data to strengthen the submission. 

Graves said the funding marks a major step forward for transportation improvements in the Northland and across northern Missouri.

Belton, Missouri and Lenexa, Kansas, also received awards for construction projects. Belton’s project will build a last-mile, multimodal freight connection from the KC Inland Port to the interstate system, completing the Markey Parkway and Bales Avenue connections.  Lenexa’s project will add a new diamond interchange at K-10 and Lone Elm Road and two miles of auxiliary lanes between K-7 and Woodland Road, creating a new north-south connection across K-10 and adding shared-use paths.
