One of the Mid-America Regional Council’s long-running programs recently underwent a rebranding. In late August, the RideshareKC program announced its new name: WAY TO GO

Originally called The Regional Rideshare Program, WAY TO GO remains dedicated to the initial program goals of keeping our air clean, reducing congestion and increasing jobs access around the region.

With a renewed strategic direction for offering programs and services to the nine-county Kansas City region, WAY TO GO focuses on all kinds of sustainable commute options for individuals and employers.

Choosing sustainable transportation
WAY TO GO envisions a region where sustainable transportation options are the best way to connect people and places. Sustainable transportation options are affordable, equitable, build community health and support economic opportunity.

WAY TO GO’s services include:

  • Providing a free carpool matching service.
  • Offering information and links to regional transportation options such as transit, biking, walking and scooting, as well as carpooling and vanpooling.
  • Coordinating the annual Green Commute Challenge, a workplace-based competition to encourage commuters to try alternative transportation options.
  • Managing the Guaranteed Ride Home program.

Employer outreach is also an important part of WAY TO GO. Staff advise organizations on alternative employee commute options, coordinate on-site events, and provide digital and printed materials and other engagement strategies to help employers reach sustainability goals and improve hiring, retention and workplace culture.

Commuting is important, but people have many places to go each day. In addition to getting to work, we also need reliable ways to get to the grocery store, the doctor, daycare, school, restaurants and stores.

The new and improved WAY TO GO app (available on iOS, Android and the web) allows residents to see all of their transportation options in one place, whether they want to find a carpool buddy or the location of the nearest RideKC Bike.
