Training
Applying the Criteria: Technical Guidance for Designers

-
Powell Community Center

Join MARC staff and the manual development team to learn and practice with the design criteria and reference appendices in the updated KC Metro Chapter of APWA, Section 5600 manual. This half-day workshop is a designer‑focused session that will dive deeper into how to apply the updated criteria within site design, modeling, and documentation workflows. Attendees will learn how the updated manual integrates drainage quantity and quality, strengthens green infrastructure performance, and aligns with modern watershed management principles.

Training Topics will include:

  • Interpreting and applying project classifications and standards applicability
  • Designing to meet volume‑based requirements that reduce downstream flooding and stream erosion
  • Stormwater detention requirements that integrate runoff reduction volume
  • Integrating green infrastructure within site designs to create multi‑benefit, resilient solutions
  • Using the compliance calculator and understanding submittal expectations
  • Best practices for preparing consistent, review‑ready design packages
  • Design exercises related to updated methods for hydrologic calculations, criteria for preservation and restoration, retention/detention, and collection and conveyance requirements

This session supports consultants, engineers, and design teams responsible for producing stormwater plans that meet the updated criteria.
