Join MARC staff and the manual development team to learn and practice plan review of projects compliant with the updated KC Metro Chapter of APWA, Section 5600 manual. This half-day workshop is meant to support municipal staff responsible for project review, permitting, and enforcement of the updated APWA 5600 criteria.

The Mid-America Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Certification Program is designed for GSI maintenance professionals, defined as a person or company that maintains green stormwater infrastructure as part of construction projects and in retrofit projects to reduce stormwater runoff. The purpose of the certification program is to verify the skills and knowledge of GSI maintenance professionals who will be hired to maintain these facilities, and to increase the long-term success of stormwater management in the Kansas City region.

Representatives from local governments and environmental organizations come together quarterly to develop a cooperative approach to water quality public education and to meet federal NPDES Phase I/II regulatory requirements.

In-person attendance is encouraged, and a catered lunch will be served.

This half-day workshop is a designer‑focused session that will dive deeper into how to apply the updated criteria within site design, modeling, and documentation workflows. Attendees will learn how the updated manual integrates drainage quantity and quality, strengthens green infrastructure performance, and aligns with modern watershed management principles.

MARC will recognize projects in our region that demonstrate resilience and align with the Kansas City Regional Climate Action Plan. Project representatives will share short presentations communicating the impacts of these projects and answer questions.

In addition, we are excited to feature a keynote speech from climate resilience expert and Executive Director of PRE Collective, Shalini Vajjhala and host a panel on the future of resilience in the metro with local resilience leaders following the feature presentations.
