This course provides an in-depth introduction to an integrated energy and emissions model, ScenaCommunity. Participants will use a model calibrated for the region to learn about modelling the energy system and its sub-sector, conceptualize and evaluate future scenarios and analyze the impacts of the scenarios on energy, emissions and costs.

Additional details

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Learn about the state of the practice for climate action planning.
  • Synthesize complex energy systems into functional models using systems dynamics and historical calibration.
  • Develop and evaluate scenarios and actions design to reduce GHG emissions.
  • Apply strategies for evaluating equity impacts.
  • Evaluate the financial impacts of climate actions using Marginal Abatement Cost Curves (MACC) and macro-level investment analysis.
  • Communicate technical data effectively through visualization tools, including Sankey diagrams and interactive dashboards.
  • Develop insights on the current and future energy and emissions for the MARC region. This course is for sustainability managers and city planners looking to quantify the impact of policies and investments on GHG emissions; policy analysts who identify and/or implement actions and policies; and consultants seeking to understand leading practices in energy and emissions modeling.
