Join MARC staff and the manual development team to learn the practicalities of applying the updated KC Metro Chapter of APWA, Section 5600 manual in your work as a stormwater professional in the Kansas City region. The manual uses a volume-based layered approach to on-site stormwater management, a departure from current performance-based standards. This half-day workshop will provide an in-depth orientation to the updated APWA Section 5600 manual and its role in advancing regional goals for stormwater resiliency, flood risk reduction, water quality improvement, and natural resource stewardship. Technical staff will provide a comprehensive overview of the manual and appendices, compliance calculator, and technical specifications and details.

Additional training topics will include:

  • Why the region adopted a new volume‑based, layered approach to stormwater management
  • The key drivers for updating the criteria (flooding, erosion, infrastructure performance, affordability, water quality, and more)
  • Structure of the updated manual, appendices, and compliance tools
  • Big‑picture guidance on consistency and regional implementation across watersheds
  • Training exercise to apply the updated criteria to a real project

This session is ideal for anyone seeking to understand the purpose, goals, and regional benefits of the new criteria before diving into application or review.
