Since its formation in 2018, the team has responded to over 30 critical incident stress debriefings dealing with deaths, suicides and officer-involved shootings.

While the program is still young, there are plans to expand and reach more individuals over the next year. Future subcommittees of the team will focus on fundraising, educational resources, family liaison and therapy dog services.

In addition to gaining regional traction, the program has received attention across the nation and globe. In early 2019, an article about the region’s 911 Peer Support Team was published in The National Emergency Number Association’s magazine, The Call. One month later the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation’s magazine, Life Net, highlighted the program as well.

The success of the 911 Peer Support Team also led to development of a similar program for public safety command staff. MARC coordinates both programs as part of its administration of the Regional 911 System, which serves 11 counties in the Greater Kansas City area.
