MARC Solid Waste Management District hosts environmental justice speakers for annual luncheon

Last week, the management council of the MARC Solid Waste Management District hosted speakers Richard Mabion and Jeff Severin. Mabion is the founder of Building a Sustainable Earth Community and a member of the EPA Region 7 National Environmental Justice Advisory Council. Severin is the senior program manager of the Heartland Environmental Justice Center at Wichita State University.

The speakers discussed the importance of communication with vulnerable populations and understanding the economic barriers that keep residents from participating in the circular economy and regenerative consumption.

As part of the annual meeting portion of the luncheon, a nominating committee presented the 2024 executive board nominee slate and the voting members approved all nominations. The new executive board will have its first meeting on Jan. 17.
