SWMD Programs

The purpose of the MARC Solid Waste Management District is to encourage the development of local and regional waste reduction, reuse and recycling programs by providing: 

  • Grants to the public, private and nonprofit sectors 
  • The Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program
  • Technical assistance to local private and public entities 
  • Recycling information through RecycleSpot.org and our Recycling Hotline at (816) 474-TEAM 
  • Food waste reduction 
  • Illegal dumping action planning

Sustainable Solid Waste Study

The Sustainable Solid Waste Management Study provides a snapshot of the region’s current waste management system and established incremental steps to achieve 40, 60 and 80 percent waste diversion over time.

Kansas City Environmental Education Network (KCEEN)

KCEEN is a bi-state network of educators serving pre-K through 12th grade youth in the Kansas City metro area committed to expanding and improving environmental education for youth. 

Recycle More with

RecycleSpot

RecycleSpot connects residents to hundreds of area recycling services and providers and gives them information on what’s available in their community. Services included are for the nine-county Mid-America region, and information is administered by MARC SWMD staff and funded in part by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. 

Special Recognition Awards

The MARC Solid Waste Management District recognizes outstanding recycling and waste reduction efforts by individuals and organizations in the region. Nominations are made in the Fall and awards are presented at the district meeting in December.
