A coalition of behavioral health service providers are working together to raise awareness about mobile crisis response services available in Clay, Platte, Ray and Jackson counties in Missouri. Convened by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), the 988 Mobile Crisis Steering Committee has produced a new video that explains what happens when a person calls the 988 Crisis Line, what mobile crisis response is and the services available beyond talking to a person on the phone.

"If support from the crisis line isn’t enough, our mobile crisis team can come directly to someone’s location 24/7 to provide confidential, in-person care. Wherever you are, our goal is to ensure a consistent, high-quality mobile crisis response."

Michelle Rogers, Specialized Services Program Director, University Health Behavioral Health and 988 Mobile Crisis Steering Committee Co-Chair

Specialists at CommCARE, the region’s mental health and substance use resource, answer 988 calls and assign the call for response. The five certified community behavioral health clinics (CCBHCs) provide a comprehensive range of mental health and substance use disorder services.

“Many people have heard of 988, but most still don’t know about mobile crisis response. This video is great way to let people know another level of crisis response available to those who want or need it.”

Julie Phillips, Shared Services Director, MARC

Since 2022, MARC has served as the coordinating body for the 988 Mobile Crisis Steering Committee on the Missouri side of the state line in the Kansas City region, with the goal of creating a unified, more efficient and standard mobile crisis response service across the region. The participating clinics include Beacon Mental Health (formerly Tri-County Mental Health Services), CommCARE, Comprehensive Mental Health Services | Burrell Behavioral Health, ReDiscover, Swope Health and University Health.

Funding for 988 mobile response is provided by the Health Forward Foundation, REACH Healthcare Foundation, Jackson County Community Mental Health Fund and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
