Amendment to the short-range transportation program

The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is the region’s short-range program that identifies projects to receive federal funds and projects of regional significance to be implemented over the next three to five years. MARC amends the TIP on a quarterly cycle but may also amend it as needed to accommodate changes.

The proposed third-quarter amendment to the 2022-26 TIP includes 100 projects.

It will add 31 new projects, including but not limited to:

  • High-Risk Rural Roads improvements on Tonganoxie Drive (RS 381) from approximately 187th Street to 189th Street in Tonganoxie, Kansas.
  • Intersection improvements at S. 55th Street and Metropolitan Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.
  • Design and construct a mini-roundabout along Hemlock Street at the commercial entrance between 133rd and 135th Street in Overland Park, Kansas.
  • Extend the Second Creek Trail system from N.W. 97th Street north to N.W. 108th Street in Platte County, Missouri.
  • Construct a new two-lane bridge at Stockdale Road over the Canadian Pacific Railroad in Clay County, Missouri.
  • Rehabilitate bridge on US-169 over the Marais Des Cygnes River in Osawatomie, Kansas.

It will also modify 69 projects in scope, schedule, or budget.

Amendment to the long-range transportation plan

Connected KC 2050, the Kansas City metro’s regional transportation plan, serves as a blueprint for managing the region’s transportation system. MARC’s Board of Directors adopted the plan in June 2020.

Required by the federal government, the plan identifies transportation improvements for the next 30 years. As the metropolitan planning agency for the Kansas City region, MARC updates and maintains the plan, including amending it as new projects, funding or program arise.

The proposed amendment #7 adjusts one project in Missouri and several in Kansas.
