Metropolitan Emergency Managers Committee (MEMC)

The Metropolitan Emergency Managers Committee serves as a forum for local emergency managers to discuss and resolve regional issues, problems, projects and activities related to all-hazards emergency management. The MEMC's mission is to foster coordination, communication and cooperation among local emergency management and allied organizations through the development of policies, procedures, educational programs and resource materials related to all-hazards emergency management.

Current Priorities

  • Convene local emergency managers for communication and the coordination of emergency management regional opportunities, strengthen partnerships between emergency management agencies, identify needs and outline strategies to address identified needs and make recommendations for investments.
  • Oversee the Metropolitan Emergency Radio System (MERS) and regional use of WebEOC.
  • Maintain support for regional public education and outreach programs, including Project Community Alert and Prepare Metro KC website and events and other efforts to reach the public and promote disaster preparedness. Develop and execute Internet, print, radio public education campaigns. 
  • Support local CERT programs.
  • Support the Medical Reserve Corps with organizational assistance and training to prepare volunteers to support local public health agencies and emergency management.
  • Oversee the Integrated Warning Team Task Force.

Community Education

This group supports local all-hazards education programs that help residents across the Kansas City region prepare for natural and other disasters. Its primary outreach tool is the PrepareMetroKC website, which offers information on regional risks, building an emergency kit and creating an emergency plan.

Plans

The Plans subcommittee is a joint venture of of the Regional Homeland Security Coordinating Committee and the Metropolitan Emergency Managers Committee.

WebEOC

WebEOC is a web-based system that gives authorized users a single access point to collect, share and view real-time emergency and event information. It supports decision-making across all phases of emergency management and can also be used for routine daily operations. WebEOC integrates data, video and messaging, delivering information to individual workstations, display screens and remote users via the internet.

Meetings

The WebEOC committee meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public.
