The Shelter Simulations course provides an opportunity for participants to increase their knowledge of working in a shelter and gain confidence in performing various shelter tasks. The course provides practical experience on how to conduct the various tasks required to maintain a functioning shelter and situations that may arise during shelter operations. Activities include group discussion; role plays and hands-on practice.
Course objectives
Promote teamwork through interactive group activities that correspond to operating a shelter, reinforce key activities and tasks that are involved in resourcing, opening, operation and closing a shelter, practice skills and discuss ways to handle issues that arise in shelters
Target audience
Employees, community volunteers, Community Organization Active in Disaster (COAD) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers who would like to assist with activities and tasks in working at a shelter.
Required pre-requisite
Participants must register and complete Shelter Fundamentals (morning session on Wednesday, November 12) prior to attending Shelter Simulations course.
Participants must attend the entire classroom session to receive a certificate.
