Water Education Program and Resources

MARC's Regional Water Quality Education Program raises public awareness about watershed issues and water quality in the Kansas City region.

The program's long-term water quality public education strategy capitalizes on the momentum created by past water quality awareness topics and community initiatives such as the Kansas Healthy Yards and Communities program.

Water Quality Education Committee

The Water Quality Education Committee (WQEC) was formed in 2003 in response to numerous requests from local governments to develop a cooperative approach to water quality public education and to meet federal NPDES Phase I/II regulatory requirements. The committee also manages an annual grant program.

KCRainKeepers.org teaches Kansas City–area residents how to reduce stormwater pollution and protect local waterways through simple, everyday actions.

Education Materials

Water Quality Public Education Committee distributes thousands of bilingual printed educational brochures, postcards, door hangers, educational playing cards, markers and public signage every year. They also provide residents of partner municipalities with small items like pet waste litter bags, car litter bags and rain gauges. The committee also creates PSAs and social media campaigns for the general public, and plan webinars for partners in government and local nonprofit organizations.
