The 2027 Planning Sustainable Places call for projects is now open

The Mid-America Regional Council is now accepting applications for its Planning Sustainable Places (PSP) program, offering a total of $1.3 million to fund local transportation-focused planning projects. Local governments across the nine-county Kansas City metropolitan region have until June 22 at 4 p.m. to submit their proposals for studies advance detailed local activity center studies, small area plans and support localized public engagement.

The 2027 grant cycle provides awards up to $150,000 for projects that integrate intermodal transportation options and social equity into local community planning. Eligible categories include sustainable places studies and project development, with a required 20% local cash match from applicants. Priority will be given to projects located within activity centers in the region’s redevelopment areas. 

Application process

Prospective applicants can attend a pre-application workshop on May 20 at the MARC offices or virtually via Zoom to learn more about the submission process. Additional virtual office hours are scheduled throughout May and June to provide technical assistance before the final June deadline. 

Selected projects are expected to begin work in early 2027 with completion slated for the second quarter of 2028.
