Food and drink service at entertainment venues and public events rely heavily on single‑use plastic cups and containers, most of which are not recycled. These events create a strong opportunity to recover and reuse durable items instead.

Collecting food waste for composting is more effective and results in less contamination when less food waste and plastic is going to landfills. These practices also give attendees a model they can easily replicate at home or in other settings.

Jobs

Using items repeatedly values the virgin materials used to create these food service goods and extends the use beyond one time. Jobs are created in the reuse of materials.

Ease of implementation

Expandable

Bold Reuse offers a commercial washing service and rental of the food service goods. This cost is initially subsidized by a SWMD grant for events in 2026.

Getting started

• Partner with KC Can Compost, who is already working with venues to compost and add reusable food serviceware.
• Future expansion to add durable silverware to the cups, plates, and bowls.
• Add silverware manufacturing to the wishlist for local industries we want to grow.
• Incentivize reuse at events and venues.
